Aaron Judge is currently on the injured list with a calf strain, and he is eligible to return for the final game of the regular season.
However, it seems like Judge will not need just a minimum stay on the injured list. According to Aaron Boone, Judge will likely be out for the Wild Card Series.
“We’re planning on him not being a part of that,” Boone said, per MLB.com's Bryan Hoch.
Judge received a PRP injection on his right calf during the off day and has a "moderate grade" strain, per Boone. The Yankees can still avoid playing in the Wild Card Series, but it will take a miracle. The Tampa Bay Rays would lock up the division and a bye with just one win against the Yankees this week.
It's safe to assume the Yankees will be playing in a Wild Card Series, and that they will be playing the Boston Red Sox. The good news for the Yankees is that they have already beaten the Red Sox seven times this year, and four times without Judge.
Still, the Yankees would prefer to have Judge in the lineup for October baseball. They will need to find a way to beat the Red Sox without him in a best-of-three series to set up a date with the Rays in the American League Division Series.
