When the Milwaukee Brewers play their first postseason game, they know that Jacob Misiorowski and Logan Henderson will be their first two starters.
However, after that, there are some question marks. Kyle Harrison has struggled since coming off the injured list after pitching like an All-Star for most of the Year. Dustin May is at an all-time high for innings in a single season, but has shown flashes of brilliance as a Brewer. Robert Gasser lacks the experience, but he may be the best option to start Game 3.
Gasser was acquired by the Brewers when they dealt Josh Hader. However, he is just now starting to make an impact after having to get Tommy John Surgery in 2024. He has a 4.30 ERA this year, but some of his final lines are not indicative of how well he has pitched.
He has a 2.33 ERA in his last four outings, which included a 5 1/3 inning outing where he was thrust into action after just one pitch after starter Dustin May took a comebacker off the elbow.
Gasser has never started a game in the postseason, but given the state of the Brewers' rotation right now, it might be his time to shine. Dustin May figures to be the Brewers' No. 4 starter, assuming they stick with a traditional four-man postseason rotation.
Pat Murphy could use an opener and look at Gasser and Shane Drohan as bulk pitchers instead of relying on a fourth starter, using Misiorowski, Henderson and May as traditional starters.
