It's been another disappointing season for the Baltimore Orioles, who are last in the AL East and will likely miss the playoffs for the second year in a row.
One of their bright spots has been Pete Alonso, who signed a five-year, $155 million contract with them last offseason. It's proven to be a good investment for the Orioles so far, as he's remained one of the best sluggers in baseball during his first season with Baltimore.
The five-time All-Star continued his strong campaign on Tuesday, launching a game-tying solo homer against his former team, the New York Mets, in the top of the ninth inning at Citi Field. It was his 36th big fly of the season and the 300th of his career, propelling the Orioles to a 7-5 win and raising his AL-leading RBI total to 101 in the process.
Of Alonso's 300 career jacks, 124 have come at Citi Field. He spent the first seven years of his MLB career with the Mets before joining Baltimore last winter.
The 31-year-old slugger has been remarkably consistent since debuting in 2019, topping 30 homers seven times and 100 RBI five times. If he stays healthy and has a few more strong years, he'll have a legitimate Hall of Fame case.
