For the fourth straight year, the Milwaukee Brewers are NL Central champions.
The Brewers became the first MLB team to clinch their division this season, securing first place with their 94th win of the year on Tuesday.
It was a relatively stress-free victory for Milwaukee, which kicked off its nine-game road trip with a 5-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park. NL Cy Young candidate Jacob Misiorowski did his thing, firing five shutout innings and racking up seven strikeouts.
The young fireballer preserved the Brewers' 1-0 lead until their bats erupted for four runs in the sixth off Gregory Soto. Meanwhile, the Pirates repeatedly failed to capitalize on their opportunities, going 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position and leaving 10 men on base.
Milwaukee owns the best record and largest division lead in baseball. With four more wins, the Brewers will surpass their franchise record for victories from last year.
More importantly, however, they have their sights set on their first World Series championship in club history.
