The Boston Red Sox recently got Trevor Story and Roman Anthony back from the injured list, and both have been great offensively.
Anthony became a star quickly after making his debut last year. Even though he had a slow start to the season, there was little doubt that he would get back on track at some point, even after missing most of the season with an injury. Story was also struggling before his injury.
However, unlike Anthony, there was less optimism that Story would get back to hitting like he did last year. He was hitting .206 before going on the injured list. Last year was Story's best season in years, but when a sports hernia put him on the shelf for months, the fear was that he was going to go back to struggling as he had for most of his Red Sox tenure.
The Red Sox reportedly looked for shortstops at the trade deadline. There was also a report that suggested that the team had given up on the idea of Story contributing even when he was healthy again. However, he has silenced plenty of doubters since coming back.
Story has started all but one of the Red Sox's games since coming back. He is 12-for-33 with four extra-base hits and four RBIs as well. His OPS is at .848, and he has even delivered a walk-off single. He is looking like the player he was last year and is expected to be a major piece as the Red Sox look to make a deep run in October.
