The New York Mets season has not gone to plan, and they were one of the biggest sellers at the trade deadline.
They are on pace to miss the postseason again, and their offseason moves have turned out to be a disaster. Letting Pete Alonso go has ended up being a huge miscalculation by David Stearns, and most of his acquisitions have struggled. One of those acquisitions was former All-Star Luis Robert Jr.
Robert dealt with injuries again this year and played in just 58 games for the Mets. The team placed him on waivers, hoping some team would take on his remaining salary. It was a long shot, but the Baltimore Orioles took the risk. They needed some help on offense and were willing to take on his remaining salary. He also has a $2 million buyout of his club option next year. Assuming they buy him out, it's about a $5 million risk.
On Thursday night, Alonso and Robert hit back-to-back home runs for the Orioles against the Boston Red Sox. That sight is certainly one that no Mets fan was too fond of.

Robert is 2-for-8 with a home run and three RBIs for his new team. His OPS is 1.000 in two games. As for Alonso, the move to let him walk is one that may haunt Mets fans for years to come. He has played in every game this year, leads the American League in RBIs and has 33 home runs.
He has also maintained a solid batting average, hitting .269. The Orioles are fighting for a wild card spot. Meanwhile, the Mets are heading toward a long offseason, headlined by a manager search.
