He is the frontrunner for the American League Cy Young Award and has dominated in nearly every start. His ERA sits at 2.04 through 29 starts, the best in the American League. He has eclipsed 200 strikeouts and also set a Yankees franchise record on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Angels.
Schlittler threw eight innings on Wednesday, allowing just one earned run. It was his 19th start of the season in which he allowed one or fewer earned runs, a franchise record.
The Yankees are one of the most storied franchises in all of sports, so setting a franchise record holds a little extra weight. Considering how many elite arms and Cy Young Award winners have played for the Yankees, Schlittler's feat becomes even more impressive.
In his 29 starts, he has allowed more than two earned runs in just six. He has 17 quality starts and should be the Yankees' Game 1 starter in the postseason.
Schlittler, Gerrit Cole, Max Fried and Carlos Rodón are an elite rotation for the team to have in October. The Yankees offense will not have to score many runs with the pitching staff they have, and more often than not, they only need to score two runs to have Schlittler exit with a lead.
