The New York Yankees saw Spencer Jones make his debut this season, but he has been sent down to Triple-A three times this year.
The Yankees called him up on July 27, and he has been in the big leagues ever since. However, he has struggled to hit at Yankee Stadium in his most recent big-league stint. In 66 plate appearances at Yankee Stadium since his July 26 call-up, he has a .207 batting average. He has a .650 OPS and just six extra-base hits in that span.
On the road, he has had 49 plate appearances. He has five home runs and a .298 batting average. His OPS is .965 on the road since July 26, and he has been a great piece for the Yankees. However, the overall numbers are not great thanks to his struggles at home.
So what should the Yankees do? Well, the Yankees could do a home-and-away platoon in center field. Trent Grisham has not had a great season, but he has actually been a better hitter at home this season. His OPS at Yankee Stadium is .844, as opposed to .571 on the road.
Jones' strikeouts have always been a concern, but his success on the road despite the high strikeout rate is somewhat encouraging for the Yankees. He is still a young player who is developing, but for now the Yankees need to find a way to maximize his ability. If he is a much better hitter on the road, the team needs to figure out why that is and just play him more on the road while he figures things out.
