The Philadelphia Phillies are sending Tommy Pham to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for cash considerations, per ESPN's Jeff Passan and James Fegan of the Chicago Sun-Times.
Pham has spent time with the New York Mets and Baltimore Orioles this season as well. The Phillies signed him to a minor league deal in June, and since he was not called up to the big leagues after that, he is eligible to be traded despite the trade deadline having passed.
Pham is being acquired prior to Sept. 1, so he is postseason eligible. The White Sox have actually done the unthinkable and are expected to be playing baseball in October. In fact, if the season ended today, they would have a bye.
Pham is expected to be activated to the active roster when rosters expand on Tuesday. He has played in nine games in the big leagues this year, all with the Mets. He went hitless in those nine games. However, he has a .775 OPS in the minor leagues this year.
Pham spent time with the White Sox in 2024 and posted a .710 OPS in 70 games with the team. He had a .700 OPS with the Pittsburgh Pirates last season. He is a 13-year veteran with 149 career home runs. He gives the White Sox a right-handed bat on the bench capable of playing in left field.
