Only one run was scored in Thursday's game between the Atlanta Braves and the Los Angeles Dodgers, but it was a historic one.
Drake Baldwin led off the bottom of the first with a solo shot off Yoshinobu Yamamoto, giving the Braves a quick 1-0 lead. That was all Chris Sale would need, as he racked up 11 strikeouts en route to his first complete-game shutout since 2019.
Baldwin's blast was his 22nd of the season. It was also the first time since at least 1900 that a catcher's leadoff home run turned out to be the only run of the game.
Baldwin's dinger helped Atlanta win the series finale and complete a three-game sweep of the defending World Series champions. The Braves have now won four in a row, improving to 79-55 and expanding their lead to five games over the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East.
The 22 home runs are a career high for Baldwin, who's having a terrific sophomore campaign after winning NL Rookie of the Year honors last season.
