Andruw Monasterio has been a great hitter for the Boston Red Sox as of late, but Trevor Story and Isiah Kiner-Falefa's returns could cost him some at-bats.
Chad Tracy has already said that Monasterio will continue to play, noting that he has earned the right to stay in the lineup. He will play second base with Story back. Assuming Story plays like he did last year, he will be the everyday shortstop, but if his struggles continue, Monasterio should start getting some of his at-bats, and Kiner-Falefa should get some more playing time as well.
With Roman Anthony returning as well, the problem for Monasterio will be later. When Curtis Mead is back as well, it will be tough to get Monasterio in at shortstop, second base or designated hitter.
"I have to be proud of myself,” Monasterio said. “I feel like maybe — I want to say maybe — maybe I did better than what they expected, so I feel proud of myself about that. When (Story) comes back, (Kiner-)Falefa comes back, and (Curtis) Mead comes back, whatever they want. I’m a team player and I want to win a ring. That’s all that matters.”
When the Red Sox acquired Caleb Durbin, Monasterio was a throw-in. He was expected to be nothing more than a bench player or utility bat. However, he has turned into a key player for their offense.
Despite feeling like he has done enough to play every day, he trusts the coaches to make the right decisions and has a good attitude. He is willing to do whatever it takes to win a World Series.
