The A's' rough season went from bad to worse on Thursday, as MLB.com's Martin Gallegos reported that All-Star shortstop Jacob Wilson will likely miss the rest of the season with a left shoulder injury.
The A's have not yet confirmed the news as of Thursday afternoon. However, he has not played since Aug. 16 and remained out of the lineup on Thursday.
The 24-year-old is expected to be placed on the injured list before Friday and return to Sacramento for another examination to determine his next steps.
His squad has already lost multiple stars to injury this year and opens play on Thursday with the worst record in MLB.
If Wilson does miss the rest of the year, it will conclude a disappointing follow-up to his outstanding rookie season last year, as his OPS declined from .800 to .685 and his numbers fell across the board.
