The New York Yankees saw Jazz Chisholm Jr. have an All-Star, 30-30 season last year, and were likely expecting big things out of him in a contract year.
Instead, Chisholm has had a career-worst year at the plate. He should still generate tons of free agency interest, but the Yankees may not be willing to pay him top dollar after the year he has had. If he leaves, the Yankees will need to find a new second baseman.
The top option to replace him may be Anthony Volpe. With George Lombard Jr. in the big leagues now, Volpe's best path back to the Yankees is at second base. The team sent him down to Triple-A, and if he can figure out his offensive woes, he could be in line to return as a second baseman.
Outside options for the Yankees are not necessarily great. Luis Arraez would be the top free agent at second base. He is trying to win his fourth batting title and was an All-Star this year. His defense has always been a knock on his game, but this year, he has been elite defensively at second base.
As far as prospects go, the Yankees don't have any in their top 30 who could take over at second base. Bo Bichette could be a name the Yankees show interest in if he opts out of his deal. However, his hitting has taken a step back this season.
