Former All-Star Heliot Ramos has not been great since joining the Yankees.
Through seven innings on Saturday, Ramos is 2-for-31 with the Yankees. He has struck out 10 times, but unfortunately for the Yankees, he has to play.
With Injuries to Cody Bellinger and Aaron Judge, Ramos is basically in an everyday role. The Yankees got him, hitting .264 with a .728 OPS through 74 games with the San Francisco Giants. His falloff is certainly a surprise. He was an All-Star in 2024, and his numbers in San Francisco this year were not too far off from that season.
He is under contract through 2029, so the Yankees acquired him knowing he would be a part of their short-term future. With Trent Grisham hitting free agency, Ramos could be in line to be a part of the core outfield group next season. He, Spencer Jones, Bellinger and Judge could be the group the Yankees roll with.
However, the Yankees will have second thoughts if they don't see better results from Ramos soon. There is a bright side to some of his struggles. He is hitting the ball hard.
Nearly a third of his outs with the Yankees have come on balls hit at more than 95 mph. It's been some bad luck mixed in with his pressing at the plate, but not all of his at-bats have been bad.
