The Tampa Bay Rays have been one of the best teams in baseball this year, especially lately.
They routed the Athletics 8-4 on Wednesday, completing a three-game sweep of the A's and finishing their road trip a perfect 9-0. They also swept the Colorado Rockies and Seattle Mariners, becoming just the second team in MLB history to go undefeated on a road trip of at least nine games in the Mountain and Pacific time zones, joining the 1977 Boston Red Sox.
It was just the 13th road trip of 9-0 or better in MLB history since 1900, including the first in Rays history.
Tampa Bay now owns the best record in baseball at 74-46 after going 18-4 over its last 22 games. The Rays lead the New York Yankees, who have the AL's second-best record, by six games in the AL East.
Tampa Bay's dominant road trip featured plenty of offense, as the Rays scored 65 runs and averaged a whopping 7.22 runs per game. That immediately followed an eight-game stretch where they averaged just 1.75 runs per game.
After getting an off day on Thursday, Tampa Bay will look to stay hot this weekend against the Baltimore Orioles at home.
