Boston Red Sox fans have not experienced many losses in the last month and a half, but the last four games have been different.
The Red Sox lost two straight games to the Athletics and two to the Toronto Blue Jays. The hitting with runners in scoring position has been poor. In fact, they are just 3-for-36 with runners in scoring position, scoring just 10 runs in the last four games.
βYouβre not going to get the clutch hit for six straight weeks and keep getting it,β interim manager Chad Tracy told The Boston Globe's Tim Healey. βThereβs going to be times (when) youβre just going to have to grind through it, and weβre in that space right now. Weβre just going to keep grinding.β
The Red Sox offense turned into one of the best in the league during their 15-game winning streak. They have kept their foot on the gas ever since and have strung together a few long win streaks. They have all the pieces to gon a deep run in October, and this rough stretch will not define them.
However, if the slump extends, then the Red Sox will have a problem. However, that's not where the Red Sox are at right now. The four-game losing streak has them three games behind the Yankees in the standings and nine games out of first place in the division.
There's still time to win the division, but the Red Sox will need the Tampa Bay Rays and New York Yankees to start losing some games, all while they get back to their winning ways.
