For the last three months, Alex Cora has been in limbo.
For the first time since 2020, he is not a Major League manager. The Boston Red Sox fired him and several of his assistants in late April amid the team's historically bad start.
Since then, the Red Sox have taken off, surging into playoff contention with a historic turnaround.
Meanwhile, Cora has been enjoying his time off, spending much of it with his fiancée and two sons in Puerto Rico. He even turned down an offer to manage the Philadelphia Phillies days after his dismissal.
What's next for Cora? During his recent appearance on Karl Ravech's "Dirt From The Dugout" podcast, he opened up about his managerial future.
“I think at one point I’m going to get back. When? We don’t know,” Cora said. “I needed my family… At the end of the day, priorities are priorities. These people are amazing, and they’re loving life.”
While Cora sounds open to managing again, he appears to be in no rush.
“There are three different opinions in that room right now,” he said. “You ask the boys, they want me to manage, and they have their teams. You ask Angelica, she’s very polite about it and let’s see what the future holds.”
If he does choose to manage again, he figures to be in high demand this offseason.
