The Los Angeles Dodgers added Tarik Skubal at the trade deadline, but some recent comments indicate he misses Detroit.
“I would love to play my entire career in Detroit," Skubal said on "Pardon My Take" on Friday. "Hopefully those negotiations can pick back up in November, once the playoffs are done. Hopefully, they’re involved with everything. I would love to return.”
Skubal will hit the open market after this season, and Dodgers fans would like to see him focus on helping the team three-peat. If he is focused on the Tigers, it means he is not 100% committed to bringing another championship to Los Angeles. That could not be further from the case.
"At the end of the day, I gotta do my job here,” Skubal said recently, per the New York Post's Dylan Hernandez. “Go play baseball and go out there and compete. Shift the mentality to give everything that I got to this team and the city of Los Angeles. That’s kind of where I have to shift to.”
The Dodgers have shockingly not been great since adding Skubal. They have lost eight of their last nine games entering play on Monday. Skubal looked good in his debut for the Dodgers, but the team lost his first game. They will take on a struggling ball club in the Kansas City Royals on Monday and Skubal will make his home debut.
Skubal is one of the best pitchers in baseball and has won back-to-back Cy Young Awards. Having him in the rotation is certainly something that increases the Dodgers' chances at a World Series, and there should be no doubts about his commitment to helping the team three-peat.
