The Los Angeles Dodgers were swept by the Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs and are on a six-game losing streak.
The team has a day off on Thursday before taking on the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Diamondbacks are trying to secure a postseason spot and will surely play the Dodgers tough. This is the worst stretch of play the Dodgers have had all season, and Freddie Freeman knows the team has to be better.
“We do need to put it together,” Freeman said per The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya. “It’s what, 50 games left? We all want to play better.”
Freeman is having a sensational year and has played well offensively during the losing streak, but he was still critical of himself after the last loss to the Cubs. Mookie Betts and Kyle Tucker have struggled offensively all year, and during a losing streak, those struggles end up taking more of the spotlight.
Neither Betts nor Tucker has lived up to expectations this season, but the team seems to believe they can turn things around. They continue to play every day, but if the Dodgers want to win the World Series, they may need them to step it up soon. The Dodgers have fallen to the No. 3 seed in the National League, and if the season ended today, they would have to play in the Wild Card round.
The reality is, the Dodgers' roster is too loaded to go through an extended slump. They added Tarik Skubal at the trade deadline and have a lineup loaded with All-Stars.
“It’s easier when you look around our clubhouse,” Freeman said. “We’re going to be fine. We just got a really good team. It’s a 162-game schedule. We’re going to go through it at some points.”
Freeman does not seem too worried about the team's slump. He knows the talent they have should be able to get them back on track in a hurry.
