Tuesday's game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs was a good reminder that the Dodgers are not unbeatable, even with Tarik Skubal on the mound.
Skubal made his Dodgers debut after getting traded from the Detroit Tigers on Sunday. The two-time Cy Young winner wasn't able to stop Los Angeles' skid or the red-hot Cubs, however, as Chicago won 5-1 in front of a raucous crowd at Wrigley Field.
It was the fifth straight loss for the slumping Dodgers -- their longest losing streak of the year. They've now dropped seven of their last nine.
Meanwhile, the Cubs have been on an epic tear over the last two months, going 35-15 over their last 50 games.
Skubal pitched well in his first start for Los Angeles, limiting Chicago to two runs on four hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out six and threw 51 of his 85 pitches for strikes, but took the loss after surrendering the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth.
The big lefty was outdueled by Javier Assad, who held the Dodgers' star-studded lineup to one run on four hits and two walks over 5 2/3 frames.
After stringing together four straight quality starts, Skubal will likely make his next outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday.
