As one of the worst teams in baseball this year, the New York Mets are expected to be big sellers ahead of the Aug. 3 MLB Trade Deadline.
Sure enough, the Mets reportedly sent veteran reliever A.J. Minter to the Minnesota Twins on Thursday night in exchange for prospects Billy Amick and Bruin Agbayani.
Minter, 32, is a solid addition for the surging Twins, who have reached .500 after winning six of their last eight games and are back in the playoff hunt. Now in his 10th MLB season, Minter has a 2.35 ERA this year and a 3.18 mark for his career. He's also a World Series champion from his time with the Atlanta Braves and brings plenty of playoff experience to the table, although he'll be a free agent this winter.
Amick, 23, is a slugging infielder who's shown impressive power at Double-A this year with 23 home runs, 72 RBI, 50 walks and an .820 OPS in 86 games.
Agbayani, 19, is also an infielder and the son of former Mets outfielder Benny Agbayani. He's only played 10 games in Single-A this season and has spent most of the year on the injured list.
With the Mets expected to have a big firesale in the coming days, they will likely move other pieces as well as they look ahead to the future, including potentially Francisco Lindor.
