The Toronto Blue Jays aren't going to get a key cog back during the 2026 Major League Baseball season.

On Friday, Blue Jays reporter Hazel Mae reported that 2025 breakout star Addison Barger's season is officially over and that he will undergo surgery on his elbow. At this time, it's unclear if he'll need Tommy John or the internal brace.

"Addison Barger's going to have surgery Monday on his elbow, and will be out for the season," Mae wrote. "John Schneider is not sure yet if it's full Tommy John or the internal brace. TJ would put him out 9 months; brace 5 months."

This certainly isn't the news that Blue Jays fans or Barger himself was likely hoping for.

Barger played in just nine games this season after breaking out last year in his second season in the big leagues.

In 2025, Barger slashed .243/301/.454 with a .756 OPS, 21 homers and 74 RBIs in 135 games played.

The 2026 season has been a difficult one for Toronto, to say the least. This is yet another example. The 2025 season was great as the Blue Jays made it all the way to the World Series. The 2026 season has been the opposite.

With losses piling up and injuries all over the place, it arguably is time to sell for the Blue Jays.
