Only This Move By Brewers Could Actually Threaten Dodgers Three-Peat

The Los Angeles Dodgers entered Thursday with the best record in baseball, with the Milwaukee Brewers half a game behind them.

After the Brewers, there is a 4 1/2 game gap until the Tampa Bay Rays show up with the third-best record in baseball. It's clear that the Dodgers and Brewers are the two best teams in baseball right now, and they seem destined to meet in the postseason. The randomness of baseball creates opportunities for upsets, but at this point, the Brewers seem to have the best shot to dethrone the Dodgers.

However, even as the team with potentially the best shot, there is still a major gap between their roster and the Dodgers. They have a great rotation and a solid lineup, but the Dodgers have a phenomenal rotation and an even better lineup. There is seemingly only one way the Dodgers would actually feel threatened by the Brewers, and it's if they traded for Tarik Skubal.

Other contenders in the National League getting Skubal would also be scary, but if he went to the Philadelphia Phillies, they would still have major holes in the lineup. The Atlanta Braves getting him would still leave question marks behind him and Chris Sale in the rotation.

However, if the Brewers got him, he would join Jacob Misiorowski, the favorite to win the National League Cy Young Award, and Kyle Harrison. That move would make Logan Henderson the Brewers' No. 4 starter. Unlike the Phillies, the Brewers' lineup does not have any major holes. Since calling up Cooper Pratt, Joey Ortiz has played better at third base, and the left side of the infield is suddenly solid.

The Dodgers swept the Brewers last year, but this team is much better. Their rotation already stands as one of the best in baseball, but adding Skubal would not only make it better, but also give them another arm capable of neutralizing their offense. Facing Skubal, Misiorowski, Henderson and Harrison in a seven-game series would certainly have the Dodgers in a tough spot.
