The New York Mets acquired Freddy Peralta from the Milwaukee Brewers in the offseason, and he is a trade candidate at this year's trade deadline.

The Mets are 12 games out of a wild card spot and are expected to be sellers at the deadline. Peralta has not been great for the Mets, but he is a two-time All-Star with playoff experience and is very affordable for a rental. He is making just $8 million this year, and will be a free agent after the season ends. According to MLB Network's Steve Phillips, the Mets could be looking to deal Peralta, and, funny enough, the Brewers make the most sense as a suitor.

For one, he is cheap, which is something the Brewers covet. Second, the familiarity with Peralta is a huge factor. He has a 4.66 ERA in 20 starts this season, so teams may be hesitant to actually trade for him and try to get him back to top form. However, that process may be easier for the Brewers.

They are the team that made him an All-Star and there is tons of familiarity there. Peralta may also be more comfortable with the Brewers, without the pressures of a big market.

Also, the Brewers may actually be on the hunt for a frontline starter. Jacob Misiorowski and Kyle Harrison are an elite duo, but behind them, the Brewers have some decent arms who lack experience. Shane Drohan, Robert Gasser and Brandon Sproat have looked good this year, but Brandon Woodruff is back on the injured list and the Brewers could use Peralta as their No. 3 starter.

Milwaukee is one of the best teams in baseball and will be looking to make a World Series run. Acquiring Peralta now that his value is down could be the type of move that helps them do that. The Brewers have a loaded farm system, and even one of their lower-level prospects could be a great get for the Mets.
