The New York Yankees have gotten very little offensive production out of the catcher position this season.
Austin Wells is batting .155 at the All-Star break in 66 games played. The Yankees need better and are making it "no secret" that they reportedly want Hunter Goodman of the Colorado Rockies or Minnesota Twins catcher Ryan Jeffers, per USA Today's Bob Nightengale.
"The Yankees are making it no secret that they want to acquire catcher Hunter Goodman of the Rockies or Minnesota Twins catcher Ryan Jeffers. Yet, the Rockies plan to keep Goodman, who has the second-most homers in the NL behind Kyle Schwarber, and the Twins have no interest in trading Jeffers unless they fall out of the mediocre AL Central race, hanging just 2 games back," Nightengale wrote.
Of the two, Hunter Goodman would be the better fit. He has 27 homers this season to go along with 51 RBIs in 90 games played. He's been an All-Star in back-to-back years and is 26 years old.
Either him or Jeffers would be good additions and the Yankees need to make a move in general. The Yankees' offense has been brutal over the last few weeks, to say the least. It's unknown when Aaron Judge is going to be back. They need some sort of bat to help make up for him.
