The San Francisco Giants have one of the most intriguing trade chips in baseball in All-Star second baseman Luis Arraez.
Between now and Aug. 3, it would be pretty surprising if Arraez wasn't moved. He's batting .330 and has been playing elite defense at second base all season to this point. Plus, the Giants are simply having a bad season. There's no reason not to move Arraez. But he made a request to clubs around the league on Monday and acknowledged that he doesn't want to move off second base.
"It's going to be second base," Arraez said. "I donβt like to go back to first base. I prepared my mind, I prepared my body only to play second base. ...
"This past week, weβve played good baseball as an organization. But I just need to stay focused and I donβt want to think about a trade. Itβs tough, especially mentally. When you feel like a family and youβve got Willy (Adames), Raffy (Devers), Heliot (Ramos), Logan (Webb) β those guys seem like family. They open the door for me."
At the end of the day, a team should want him at second base. He's been elite defensively this season. He's in the 99th percentile in outs above average with 10.
