Anthony Volpe was once the New York Yankees' top prospect, but he has yet to showcase that talent in the big leagues.

In 513 career games, Volpe has a .224/.287/.375 slash line and 53 home runs. He has a Gold Glove Award, but his defense has taken a decline in the last couple of seasons as well. Shortstop is a premium position, and the Yankees have Josรฉ Caballero ready to take over if they decide to be done with Volpe there. However, if they want to keep him in the lineup, he may not be open to changing positions.

During an appearance on ESPN Radio, Michael Kay reported that the Yankees asked Volpe to play some second base and he "allegedly" said no, noting that he was a shortstop. Kay noted that he is unsure if that's actually how it went down, but he has been told by multiple sources that he was asked to play second base in the minor leagues and refused. It is not a good look for Volpe, who is now being put under a microscope.

He has been given plenty of chances to prove himself in the big leagues as a shortstop and has failed. Caballero has looked good there and provided more offense. The Yankees could look to move Volpe to third base, where Ryan McMahon has struggled offensively.

However, if Kay's report is true, Volpe may have no interest in moving. He may have changed since he was in the minor leagues, but it's certainly a concerning situation if true.
