The Boston Red Sox earned their fifth straight win on Monday, but were missing their most consistent hitter for most of the contest.
Red Sox first baseman Willson Contreras clubbed a homer early in the game in the first inning and then was ejected in the second inning. Contreras stepped up to the plate and struck out. He check swung, but was called out by first base umpire Nic Lentz.
On the replay, it did look like Contreras potentially went too far on the check swing. That is okay.
But as Contreras was walking to the dugout, he tapped his helmet โ almost as if he was looking for an ABS challenge โ and Lentz threw him out of the game.
unreal.

You can see in the clip above, it doesn't look like Contreras said anything while walking to the dugout. Lentz took exception, clearly, to Contreras tapping his helmet and arguably overstepped and tossed the Boston first baseman.
He did the same thing to Taylor Walls last year.
Umpire Nic Lentz called a strike to Taylor Walls that missed low.

Certainly not the best call.
