While the Toronto Blue Jays had a tough day in the standings on Wednesday, there was still a bit of history made at Rogers Centre.

Max Scherzer toed the rubber for the first time since April 24. While he didn't have his best outing, to say the least, Scherzer did become just the 11th pitcher in Major League Baseball history to reach 3,500 strikeouts

That was the biggest positive of the night for the Blue Jays. Unfortunately, the Blue Jays lost the contest, 7-4. Scherzer pitched just 3 1/3 innings in his return to the mound and allowed five earned runs and walked three batters. He did chip in four strikeouts, at least.

For the foreseeable future, the Blue Jays are going to need Scherzer on the hill in large part due to the injuries the club has been dealing with. If he continues to pitch like he did on Wednesday night, there's a real chance that the club will need to evaluate his role with the franchise. While this is the case, that's a conversation for another day. History was made with the longtime superstar. No matter what else happens with him, we're talking about a first-ballot Hall of Famer.
