This past offseason, the Boston Red Sox were looking for a way to save some salary.

One way they did this was by trading Jordan Hicks to the Chicago White Sox. But Hicks struggled so much last year that the Red Sox had to attach a top prospect to Hicks just to get his contract off the books. Just to get rid of Hicks, Boston included right-handed pitcher David Sandlin, who was the team's No. 8 prospect at the time, two players to be named later and cash. Boston got right-handed pitcher Gage Ziehl and some cash back in the process.

It was a weird deal. Last year, Sandlin got the attention of Boston fans as he made it up to Triple-A Worcester. He finished the season with a 4.50 ERA in 32 total appearances down in the minors. There was even a time when it seemed like he had a chance to make the jump to the majors as bullpen help down the stretch. That didn't happen, though. Now, he is set to make his big league debut, though. Elijah Evans of Just Baseball reported that Sandlin is being promoted to the White Sox's big league club.

"The White Sox are calling up pitching prospect David Sandlin, sources tell Just Baseball and Future Sox," Evans wrote. "The 25-year-old right-hander acquired this offseason from Boston has pitched to a 0.75 ERA with 17 strikeouts in 12 innings at Triple-A since returning from injury."

Boston fans unfortunately never saw Sandlin in the majors in a Red Sox jersey. But, he will make his debut soon wearing a White Sox one.
