The Boston Red Sox will try to get back in the win column on Saturday when they face off against the Minnesota Twins.
Brayan Bello will take the mound, but not right away. On Friday, MassLive.com's Chris Cotillo reported that Jovani Moran will get the start as the opener ahead of Bello.
"Jovani Moran opens for Brayan Bello tomorrow, the Red Sox say," Cotillo wrote.
This is the third time in Bello's last four appearances that he will come in behind an opener. The trend began on May 5 against the Detroit Tigers. He came in relief and allowed just one earned run in seven innings pitched. On May 12, he came in relief again against the Philadelphia Phillies and allowed just one run in 6 1/3 innings pitched. On May 17, the Red Sox moved him back into the rotation fully and he had his worst appearance since April 24. Bello allowed seven earned runs in five innings pitched.
It's a weird quirk and is something Boston needs to continue to monitor closely. Garrett Crochet will be back in the not-so-distant future and the Red Sox will need to sort out this rotation at that point. If Bello isn't reliable and Payton Tolle is thriving, it very well could end up being Bello who ends up losing his role.
