The Boston Red Sox have been bitten by the injury bug over and over so far this season and so, unsurprisingly, there were some nerves on Wednesday night when backup catcher Connor Wong was forced to exit against the Philadelphia Phillies.

It was an ankle injury that knocked Wong out of the contest, but fortunately, he seems to have avoided anything serious. MassLive.com's Christopher Smith reported that the initial imaging on Wong came back negative and that the current expectation is that he'll be fine.
"Initial imaging on Connor Wong is negative. He should be fine but the Red Sox will know more tomorrow, [interim manager Chad Tracy] said," Smith wrote on X.
This is for the best for Boston. With how the 2025 season went, you'd assume that Wong wouldn't be impacting the offense much. But that isn't the case. Wong is slashing .245/.327/.347 in 18 games played for the Red Sox this season. In comparison, Carlos Narvaez is slashing .210/.273/.321 in 27 games played.
Boston can't afford many more injuries right now.
