The Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers kicked off a three-game series on Monday night on the road at Comerica Park.

It was a rainy contest that even featured a delay. While this is the case, Boston was able to come out on top, 5-4. Jarren Duran blasted a homer and both Wilyer Abreu and Marcelo Mayer also chipped in RBIs to get Boston back into the win column.

Before the game, there was a bit of a shock. ESPN's Jeff Passan reported that Tigers superstar Tarik Skubal, who was scheduled to start on Monday, will undergo surgery to remove loose bodies in his elbow and now will miss two to three months.

"Detroit ace Tarik Skubal will undergo surgery to remove loose bodies in his left elbow," Passan wrote. "Such procedures typically sideline players for 2-3 months. Skubal should return before season's end, but a tough blow for the impending free agent and two-time reigning AL Cy Young winner."

Skubal is the two-time reigning American League Cy Young Award winner and has already beaten the Red Sox once this season. The Tigers had to turn to Tyler Holton as an opener before turning the ball over to Ty Madden for five innings after it was announced that Skubal would miss time.
