Alex Cora's abrupt firing as the manager of the Boston Red Sox was easily the shocker of the Major League Baseball season thus far.

Not only was Cora only in year two of a three-year, $21.75 million extension, but he was the last remaining vestige of the 2018 World Series team in Boston. It's rare to see any manager get fired in April, but it was especially jarring to see someone go who had so much credibility built up with their fan base.

On Tuesday, after the dust had settled on Saturday night's bombshell, Cora took to X to send a parting message to that fan base, which saw plenty of ups and downs over the skipper's seven-plus years at the helm.

"Boston, we will miss you," Cora wrote. "Gracias for making us part of you. #RedSoxNation, you are the (heart) of that team, keep believing, you really care and that’s what pushes everyone in the (Red Sox) to give it all day in and day out. With respect and love, AC."

Cora finished his Red Sox tenure with 620 wins, trailing only Hall of Famer Joe Cronin and future Hall of Famer Terry Francona in franchise history. He also had a .534 winning percentage, three playoff appearances, one division title, and of course, the World Series ring from 2018.

Much time will be spent over the next few months and years wondering whether the Red Sox, led by chief baseball officer Craig Breslow, made the right decision in letting him go. But on Tuesday, it was time for some closure at the end of a productive relationship.
