The Boston Red Sox opted to hold onto all four of the club's elite outfielders this past offseason and it looks like the right call.
Roman Anthony, Jarren Duran, Ceddanne Rafaela and Wilyer Abreu are all still with the organization. Boston will have to find a way to sort out all of their playing time, but when you have this much talent, it's for the best. Duran, specifically, was mentioned as a potential trade chip throughout the offseason, but Boston held onto him again, like ahead of the 2025 trade deadline.
Now, with just under one month to go until Opening Day, Duran is one of the hottest hitters in Spring Training. Duran has played in five games so far and has slashed .583/.667/1.500 with a 2.167 OPS. Duran has blasted three homers, driven in five runs, walked three times, collected two doubles and scored six runs.
What a run for the speedy Boston outfielder. Whether the club has him in the outfield or in the designated hitter role, Boston arguably made the right decision keeping him around. Some have questioned the Red Sox's offense. But if Duran can swing it like this in the regular season, they'll surprise some people.
