The Boston Red Sox have been a team on the lookout for talent all offseason.
With Alex Bregman leaving the organization in free agency, it left a gaping hole in the infield, which has not been filled quite yet. Now, that doesn't mean that it won't. Boston signed Isiah Kiner-Falefa as an option who can play all over the infield. But he doesn't appear to be the team's last option. Red Sox insider Tim Healey of The Boston Globe shared a breakdown of the offseason to this point and noted that Boston still has "room" for one more move in Spring Training.
"So suffice to say the Sox have room for an in-camp move," Healey wrote. "And their recent history has featured several, providing evidence that a meaningful transaction still is possible. Last year, of course, they introduced Alex Bregman the day before the first full-squad workout. In 2022, the Red Sox officially signed Trevor Story on March 23, their climax in a lockout-interrupted offseason. J.D. Martinez joined the team on Feb. 26 in 2018, solidifying what became a historically excellent lineup.
"Shoot, these Sox would do well to add even someone such as Mike Carp. They got him from the Mariners on Feb. 20, 2013, and he went on to be an above-average hitter in a part-time role for a club that went on to win the World Series."
Now, if the Red Sox can land one more infielder โ like Isaac Paredes of the Houston Astros, for example โ that would be the type of deal that can move the needle for the club as they look to compete in a jam-packed American League East with the Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Yankees.
