The Reds recalled pitcher Edinson Volquez from Class A Dayton on Tuesday. Volquez made the second of his two starts for Dayton on Monday, throwing six-plus innings with three runs (two earned), three walks, 10 strikeouts and two home runs.

The Truckee High baseball team began Northern 3A league play with an 8-1 win against Yerington on Wednesday. Senior staff ace Maclane Brady picked up the win, striking out eight in five innings while allowing two hits, no walks and one unearned run.
