The Yankees will honor their late former owner, George Steinbrenner, with a plaque in Monument Park at Yankee Stadium in a pregame ceremony on Sept. 20.
Michigan State baseball head coach Jake Boss has announced the signing of David Garner (Niles, Mich./Niles High School) to a Big Ten tender. A 6-1, 180-pound right-handed pitcher, Garner was drafted in the 33rd round (No. 997 overall) of the Major League Baseball Draft in June, but has elected to play college baseball and attend Michigan State University.

Michigan State head baseball coach Jake Boss has announced the hiring of Graham Sikes as assistant coach. Sikes has spent the past three seasons as the volunteer assistant coach at Notre Dame and has also coached at James Madison, Young Harris (Ga.) College and Nicholls State. Sikes has coached 28 players who have been selected in the MLB Draft.

The players of this era just don't know what it was like to play for the Yankees in the 1970s. They won five World Series championships since 1996 playing for a man they still refer to as Mr. Steinbrenner. He was the quiet Boss, who had mellowed in old age.
